A Tudor-style house adapted to family life

The architectural firm H + A (Hacin + Associates) was commissioned to remodel this 1930s Tudor-style house in Newton, Massachusetts (just look at the facade), to leave behind its traditional and compartmentalized design and design an informal and comfortable home, adapted to a young family.

The project included a complete architectural renovation of this four-bedroom home, as well as the design of all interior finishes, furniture, and accessories. Now, the rooms open directly to each other, providing visual and physical connection, a sense of unity that is enhanced by the use of the same materials throughout the house.

The choice of colors and materials was based on a study of traditional Tudor architecture and design that was reinterpreted in a modern way. The furniture, rugs and lighting respond, in many cases, to handicraft designs. The embroidered fabrics add texture and texture to each room. It also highlights the use of wallpaper in unconventional patterns.

As soon as you enter the house, the hall is flanked by a limestone wall and an arched entrance to the living room. One step down, the fireplace in the living room imposingly presides over the space. The limestone wall is the backdrop to the kitchen and living room.

In the dining room, custom chairs in wood and wool upholstery, with a mid-century aesthetic, surround the white Saarinen table. This environment also includes panels on the wall, rescued from the original interior of the house. And on the ceiling, William Morris wallpaper serves as the basis for a tangled pendant lamp. From the living room you go to the dining room and from this, through a charming and bright living room, to the kitchen, spacious and with a dining room.

The second-floor distributor landing doubles as a play area and includes mid-century furnishings and a family photo gallery. The master bedroom is decorated with pieces of refined lines, with a careful covering of the walls, lamps and deco objects that personalize. The main dressing room is lined with paper.
